About Ahmed
Ahmed El-Mougy is an accomplished composer and orchestrator whose work spans television, film, advertising, YouTube, and live concerts. Throughout his career, he has been involved in three prominent international events, among other endeavors.
In November 2021, Nader Abbassi introduced Ahmed El-Mougy as a composer for the first time, entrusting him with the music for the "Luxor Sphinxes Avenue" ceremony, which revived the ancient Opet Festival more than 3,000 years later. Working together as a team around the clock, they completed the entire project in just 20 days.
Earlier that year, in April 2021, El-Mougy played an important behind-the-scenes role in the Golden Parade. He transcribed the orchestral scores, coached the choir, and joined the TV director's team to give the orchestra players their cues.
He has worked as an orchestrator on several projects performed by the United Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Nader Abbassi. These include concerts by Magda El-Roumi and three episodes of "Sahebat Al Saada", the famous Arab-world TV show produced and hosted by Esaad Younis. He also plays piano as a member of the United Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a music producer, he has produced several hit songs for pop stars such as Amal Maher, Rashed El Maged, and Hisham Abbas.
In 2009, El-Mougy graduated from the Arab Music Institute in Composition and Theories, earning a Bachelor of Music with an Excellent rating.
The Maqam Signatures Tool
Maqam music has its own sound: half-flats and half-sharps written right into the key signature. Sibelius's built-in key signatures can't express these microtonal accidentals.
Ahmed collaborated with ScoringWorld on Maqam Signatures, drawing on his experience as a composer and orchestrator of Arabic music.
With Maqam Signatures, you can build standard maqam key signatures, or your own custom ones, by dragging quarter-tone flats and sharps onto the staff. The tool adds the pitch bends needed for quarter-tone playback, and writes the matching transposed signature for each transposing instrument.
The result: maqam key signatures in Sibelius that look and sound as they should.
