Reini P.-Schmölzer is an Austrian drummer, composer, and arranger specializing in large jazz ensembles.
Active across Europe as a drummer, composer, and arranger, he has collaborated and performed with leading orchestras and artists including the Frankfurt Radiobigband, NDR Bigband, Croatian Radio-television Jazz Orchestra, RTV Bigband Slovenija, Chris Potter, David Helbock Trio, Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, Michael Abene among many others.
His work has been featured in major touring projects and studio productions.
As a bandleader, Schmölzer has released two acclaimed jazz orchestra albums on UNIT Records — Miraculous Loss of Signal (2012) and Aerial Image (2016) — a new jazz orchestra recording is scheduled for release in fall 2026.
Since 2019, he has been teaching Jazz Composition and Arranging at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt, in the south of Austria.

In the professional field, walking bass lines are of course not written out. But in order to give the musicians in the band a first impression of a new arrangement or composition, it is often customary to send audio demos (from Sibelius) that include Jazz walking bass lines.
