Starting this week, a selection of the notation tools developed through our Custom Tool Program is also available on Notation Central, the leading marketplace for music notation resources.
This marks an important step in expanding the availability of these tools beyond our official website, making them easier to discover and access for Sibelius users around the world.
Private Use or Public Release
When we develop a custom notation extension (tool), you can choose between two approaches:
- Keep the tool for private use within your own workflow.
- Make the tool available through our public catalog for the wider notation community.
Several of these publicly released tools are now available through Notation Central.

About the Custom Tool Program
The program is designed for musicians, arrangers, engravers, and educators who regularly encounter repetitive or specialized notation tasks.
Examples include:
- Mechanical, repetitive operations that consume valuable time.
- Custom symbols or workflows required by a particular instrument or musical style.
- Exporting scores into specific audio, printing, or production formats.
- Unique engraving requirements not covered by standard Sibelius features.
By automating these processes, custom tools can save hours of work and allow musicians to focus on the creative aspects of their projects.

Featured by Scoring Notes
The Custom Tool Program was recently featured in a Scoring Notes article by Philip Rothman, which explores several of the tools currently available and discusses how custom development can help solve specialized notation challenges.
